“True beauty could be discovered only by one who mentally complete the incomplete.”
― Kakuzō Okakura, The Book of Tea
Hi, I’m Tan (rhymes with can, ran, and pan).
I’m an animator and designer. I specialize in pairing code with expressive animation. Currently based in New York, I was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Miami.
Prior to my current role at Planned Parenthood, I helped shape motion design for Section4, a business strategy startup. I also worked on marketing campaigns for bestselling books at Penguin Random House, amplifying the publishing house’s footprint in video.
Before that I got my BA/MA in Environmental Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, studying the intersection of sustainable urban design, policy, and communications, graduating as a Posse Foundation alum.
I am excited by provocative questions, timeless mental models, and wisdom from unexpected people and places. I am rooted in systems thinking. I am a believer in investing in self-education, as well as investing in a community you believe in.
I am a Senior Motion Graphic Designer at Planned Parenthood, leading the effort to evolve the organization’s motion design system. I work with an amazing creative team in the service of informing patients, young people, older people, parents, LGBTQ+ people, and so many more audiences about sexual and reproductive health, through storytelling and awareness.
